Joan Zagrobelny Ceramics

I hand build my sculptures, creating curvy, organic forms with highly tactile and visually engaging surfaces. My process of coiling and squeezing the clay builds an intimate connection between me and my sculptures. For me, this process is a mystical one, like all acts of creation. To each sculpture, I have transferred my energy and intention, and it in turn has become a tangible extension of my life, so much so that I often feel that the finished forms convey a living presence, through through their movement, gesture or profound stillness. Is it possible to capture the transcendent within the material, consciousness in clay?
